Team USA took part in the St. Albans City Council meeting on Monday, December 12, 2011 to share their work on the St. Albans City street lights. The majority of the work was completed last spring, but with the needs and timing of the Council required the results to be shared this week. The background work included mapping the city lights by walking and locating all street lights. Students used detailed maps and GPS units to get accurate locations. This data was uploaded onto a Google Earth file and shared. Students also researched the pros and cons of street lights, discussed cost of running the lights, conducted polls about street lights, and created alternatives to our City's current lighting scenario.
At the council meeting, Team USA presented the Google Earth map, research on street lights and shared possible solutions to reducing the cost of street lights. The Council and general audience appreciated the effort and time put into this project. The information shared was enlightening and impressed most people in attendance. Nice job, Team USA!
