An attempt to capture the live energy of Chervona, a Portland-based band that seems to defy categorization - Russian/gypsy/punkish/... all seem to fail at describing the foot stomping experience. I cut through two hours of footage to pull together about 6 minutes that hopefully gives you a sense of what the music and performance is like.
Shot in very low light at the Alberta Public House in NE Portland. The HV30 was screaming when it was pointed at the crowd and the attempts by the auto settings to deliver enough brightness made for a slow-shutter streaky experience. Also all shot handheld (with a monopod mainly for making it easier to hold) which didn't help. (But the venue was way too crowded for anything else.)
Audio is pretty sub-standard - pulled from the camera mounted shotgun. I really need to get my Zoom set up the next time they do this.
Much appreciation for Andrei and the gang for giving me the access. You can find Chervona at: myspace.com/chervona
