In the State of the Union Address on January 28, 2014, President Barack Obama commended Washington Heights Expeditionary Learning School (WHEELS) senior Estiven Rodriguez who overcame obstacles and received a college scholarship to Dickinson College with the support of his family, school and community. The President also praised WHEELS’ groundbreaking College March that honored its seniors who marched to the post office to mail their college applications.
