“But he said to them do not be alarmed, you seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.”
This was the message of the angel to the women who came to the tomb. It had to be an alarming sight. They came looking for a dead Jesus, a crucified Jesus, a body they would anoint with spices. But this simple message had to stun them. He is risen! He is not here – come look for yourself.
Those few words changed everything. Those few words brought to light what would be a new beginning for all of humanity.
Even though this passage is a traditional Easter story it’s highly appropriate at the beginning of a new year. Jesus was crucified–but He is risen! He’s alive. And that fact means the ultimate new beginning for us.
When God raised Jesus from the dead it offered a new beginning to anyone who would simply believe. More powerful than the promise of a new year–Jesus’ resurrection offers us the promise of a new life, a new hope.
This ultimate new beginning stays with us long past the afterglow of a new year. This new beginning stays new and gets stronger in us as we continue with the Lord.
Whatever you set as a New Year goal make sure you start the New Year with the One who was crucified but is risen. Jesus is Alive – Happy New Life!
Thank You for the new beginning, new hope, new life we have in Jesus. Help us to draw closer to Him during this year. Thank You for making it possible to have the best new beginning and new start every day. And thank You for this new year. I am expecting Your best for this year!! Amen.
