Grid.icles is a project realized by 5 students from the Leopold Franzens University (in Innsbruck (Austria)) of the architecture faculty.
Topic : "Meeting Nature Halfway"
Ice has to take part in the project. It has to interact with the piece of architecture. In this case, they decided to create kind of a canopy that consists of several planar surfaces in different layers. These surfaces are perforated with a digitally aided grid (created in "Rhinoceros) with a strong tool called "Grasshopper").
Out of the grid they wanted to create icicles by pouring water over it.
The exact spots where the icicles should arise are controlled by the different sizes of the holes in the surfaces.
