Preparing for the Lord's Table

Churches in history have taken seriously the need to prepare for participation in the Lord's Table. Paul said a man ought to examine himself and judge himself lest he come under God's judgment (1 Corinthians 11:27-32). The communion token is a relic of the past that was used by many churches to assure that only people who were spiritually prepared could partake of the Lord's Supper. We don't need to return to the use of tokens, but we do need to take more seriously the need to prepare.
