In the face of recent wildfires, I'm moved to reflect on how our community rose to the occasion. The dedication of the McKenzie LongTerm Recovery Group was exemplary and unwavering.
It's heartening to recall that we established a resource center at Walterville Grange. At the height of the crisis, this haven operated from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Our wonderful volunteers ensured not just logistical support but also a warm dinner at 6 p.m., providing a space for community members to come together. Alongside this, our collaboration with the county and the Red Cross helped in setting up a major relief center at Lowell High School.
I cannot fail to mention Jeff Dehne. With his invaluable support, the Grange became more than just a center—it became a breath of respite, especially with the addition of the on-site air scrubber.
Looking back, the spirit and unity of our community were nothing short of awe-inspiring. We've seen the tangible results of what many in our community achieved during those times. Through adversity, our bonds only strengthened.
Let us always remember how we embodied #McKenzieStrong. And to our firefighters who faced the frontline, our heartfelt thanks are forever yours.
