Cross Cut finds Pinter's funny bone.
Two assassins wait for instructions in a dilapidated basement. The room is bare except for two beds and the dumb waiter connected to the cafe above. The killers are primed and ready, anxious for news of their victim. Suddenly, the dumb waiter starts working. The information they need might be on its way. What arrives is strangely shocking. An order for steak and chips! Is this a joke or something more sinister? What happens if they can’t deliver?
This tense, funny two-hander is a tiny masterpiece by a towering figure of British theatre. It is quintessential Pinter, simultaneously menacing and hilarious.
Cross Cut’s is a fresh take on a superb Pinter comedy.
