Ascending the Zugspitze via Höllental is probably the most exciting route to reach Germany's highest mass of rock. Passing through narrow gorges, crossing gushing rivers, spending the night in a rustic alpine hut, getting up at 5.30 a.m., crossing a glacier, negotiating crevasses and mastering almost 1.000 meters of fixed rope route can only leave you breathless - in any meaning of the word.
Relax: the rescue helicopter was a false alarm.
