This video that my team and I made during the “I Was There” Film Workshop hosted by Benjamin Patton and his crew uses the metaphor of books to signify the burdens we all carry spiritually, professionally, and personally. We all start with our own books that we carry, but during the course of our lives we must also carry others’ books with us. Sometimes, we become so overburdened with all the books we carry as they pile up in our hands or on our desk that we ned to take a deep breath, examine our situation, re-sort our priorities and make difficult decisions that will affect not only ourselves, but those around us.
The short film’s targeted audience are other soldiers and their family members. My team and I used music, specific colors (red, black, white), and key sounds (washing, water flowing, key jingling, unlocking the lock on the bounded/locked book) and a few spoken words to elicit emotions from our audience. It is our hope that through this short film, our friends and family would realize that we all have burdens to carry and must sort through our lives in order to sort through our priorities and make the wisest decision we could at that very moment we had to make it.
