Proposals for two possible scenarios for saving the endangered black rhino and beluga sturgeon species with synthetic biology. Since these two species are seen as commodities it is inferred that those investing in saving them may be the ones most connected to the products they produce (rhino horn for the black rhino and beluga caviar for the beluga sturgeon). The proposals aim to highlight the troubled economic systems surrounding these endangered species and how this may influence future scientific research in the area of conservation.
