This year we are stoked to have the power of Mountain Dew behind the event – they have made it possible to bring the 2014 Cheapskates Skateboard Nationals to Porirua Skate Park and have provide two key prizes that contribute to the development of some of our country’s best skateboarders.
For over 30 years Cheapskates have been supporting local skateboarders and skate brands in New Zealand. Other long-time supporters of this event, who we were pleased to have back with us were DVS Shoes, Element Skateboards and Manual Magazine – together they provided a huge prize pool.
Also onboard this year was Graffiti Reduction Porirua who were promoting awareness about keeping our skateparks clean and tag free.
“This event wouldn’t have been possible without the massive support of our sponsors, the hard work of the Porirua Action Sports Association and the generous support of Mana Community Trust and NZCT. We’re stoked to have been part of the Festival of the Elements once again.” Said Manual Magazine’s David Read
“Every year the skating just keeps getting more and more insane and this year was no different, due especially to the impressive line-up we had in attendance today.” Said event organiser Joel Middlemiss.
Mountain Dew is proud to have awarded the 1st place winner of the Under 16 division, Chris Skelton, with a trip to the Element YMCA Skate Camp in California. Mountain Dew will also be sending Dallas Marshall, the 1st place winner of the Open division, to the 2014 Dew Tour in the USA! The Dew Tour showcases some of the best skaters in the world, and the winner will get to check them out in person.
Tai Wepa took out the 13 & Under division, Rico Henare came tops in the 10 & Under and Lily Francis won the Women's division.
Mountain Dew also provided special ‘Easy is Hard’ prize packs for bails and slams throughout the day, and offered 16-year-old Hawkes Bay skater Josh Kitt—who dislocated his knee—a year’s supply of Mountain Dew.
