„Cameristele" de Jean Genet, jucată pentru prima dată la Paris în 1947 în mijlocul unor proteste violente, expune fără milă perversiunea unei societăți conservatoare și retrograde, punând sub semnul întrebării moralitatea ca privilegiu al celor bogați și puternici.

Într-un stil deopotrivă ludic și incisiv, piesa autorului francez explorează limitele dintre dragoste și ură într-o lume nedreaptă din punct de vedere structural.

Jean Genet este un dramaturg și poet care a „spart frontiere", punând în mod constant sub semnul întrebării ideea de libertate, atât în opera sa, cât și în viața sa privată. El însuși fiind orfan, dezertor, hoț și vagabond, dragostea și fascinația i-au fost mereu îndreptate înspre destinul celor care trăiesc la periferia sau în afara societății.

Jean Genet a cerut ca cele trei personaje din piesa sa, Solange, Claire și Madame, să fie interpretate de bărbați. O astfel de decizie nu ne mai surprinde atât de mult în zilele noastre, însă ne provoacă să analizăm problemele de reprezentare și stereotipurile specifice contemporaneității, cu scopul de a găsi noi forme de autenticitate și de a genera noi conexiuni empatice.

Actorii Yannick Becker, Benedikt Häfner și Daniel Bucher de la Secția germană a Teatrului Național „Radu Stanca” Sibiu, precum și tânăra actriță Ana Tiepeac în rolul lui Jean Genet însuși, înfruntă aceste provocări împreună cu orchestra „RakLap”, care asigură acompaniamentul muzical, pentru a pune în scenă un manifest împotriva structurilor de putere descrise în piesă și împotriva nedreptăților de astăzi.

În montarea lui Hunor Horváth, actorii trebuie să lupte neîncetat pentru identitatea personajelor, în timp ce mascarada lor se reflectă în apa care acoperă întreaga scenă, iar rolurile clar împărțite la început încep să se estompeze pe scena rotativă. Tot astfel, scenografia creată de Elöd Golicza va capta jocul actorilor și îl va iradia în toate direcțiile ca o prismă.

Totul culminează, în final, cu o mare întrebare: cine și ce putem fi într-o lume care ne atribuie un rol chiar înainte de a ne naște? Sau: este nevoie oare de un dezastru care să ne afecteze pe toți pentru a înțelege că suntem toți o singură entitate și că împărțim o singură lume?

"The Chambermaids" by Jean Genet, performed for the first time in Paris in 1947 amid violent protests, mercilessly exposes the perversion of a conservative and retrograde society, questioning morality as a privilege of the rich and powerful. In a style both playful and incisive, the French author's play explores the boundaries between love and hate in a structurally unjust world. Jean Genet is a playwright and poet who "broke frontiers", constantly questioning the idea of ​​freedom, both in his work and in his private life. Himself an orphan, a deserter, a thief and a vagabond, love and his fascination has always been directed towards the fate of those who live on the periphery or outside of society.

Jean Genet requested that the three characters in his play, Solange, Claire and Madame, be played by men. Such a decision does not surprise us much nowadays, but challenges us to analyse the problems of representation and stereotypes specific to contemporaneity, with the aim of finding new forms of authenticity and generating new empathic connections.

Actors Yannick Becker, Benedikt Häfner and Daniel Bucher from the German Section of the "Radu Stanca" National Theatre of Sibiu, as well as young actress Ana Tiepeac in the role of Jean Genet himself, face these challenges together with the "RakLap" orchestra, which provides the musical accompaniment, to stage a manifesto against the power structures depicted in the play and against today's injustices.

In Hunor Horváth's staging, the actors must constantly fight for the identity of the characters, while their masquerade is reflected in the water that covers the entire stage, and the clearly divided roles at the beginning begin to blur on the revolving stage. Likewise, the scenography created by Elöd Golicza will capture the actors’ craft and radiate it in all directions like a prism.

It all boils down to one big question: who and what can we be in a world that assigns us a role even before we are born? Or: does it take a disaster that affects us all to understand that we are all one entity and that we share one world?
