Allen Kaeja created naked in 1997. The work is inspired by the physical dynamic and intricate articulation that Karen Kaeja is able to exemplify with any dancer she creates with. The piece is pure kinetic expression. In its most raw state, it is architectural, clarifying the finite spatial interaction between two bodies in space. In it’s richness, it is about the illustration inherent in the depth of a long established relationship. The definition of line and timing is as essential as the distinct interaction between the two women. Every nuance of motion and breath emphasizes its own apparent language of history together.
Created with and performed by: Karen Kaeja and Sylvie Bouchard
“In naked the body speaks of the raw energy of interconnecting dancers, and also of harmony. Karen Kaeja (the choreographer’s wife) and Sylvie Bouchard create monumental shapes out of their entwining limbs and torsos. Danced bare-chested and in silence, naked is an uncluttered delight of pure physical expression.”
