There's a difference between aesthetic dentistry and cosmetic dentistry, I feel.
Cosmetic dentistry can be just fixing one tooth to make it look better, to make it match the rest.
Aesthetic dentistry is looking at the entire picture as a whole, and making sure that things don't only look really good, but they feel and function like they're own.
With aesthetic dentistry, we offer multiple treatments that give people amazing smiles that they are proud to wear. One being veneers, two being Invisalign, and three being whitening.
Porcelain veneers are little pieces of thin porcelain that are bonded to your teeth. They are pretty, but they are also really strong so that you can function with them. Nearly everyone is a candidate for porcelain veneers. Modern dentistry allows for minimal to no-prep veneers, which is really exciting today, because a lot of people think that we have to take back a lot of the tooth structure, and we don't. People typically wish that they had done them sooner. They absolutely love their new smile. They shout it from the rooftops and rave about them.
Sugar Fix Dental Loft offers three whitening products that vary in cost, commitment, and result. Kör whitening, by far is our most sophisticated system. It's a take home system that you wear for two weeks at home with custom trays, but the product is absolutely second to none. It basically whitens teeth that haven't whitened with traditional systems. You hear a lot of people saying, "But I've Zoomed, and I've done take home and over the counter, and I don't see a great result." Kör will fix it.
Kör is shipped overnight on dry ice, versus some products [that] typically sit in the warehouse or on a truck. Sometimes the products break down, and this can lead to sensitivity. One of the main perks to the system is that it causes less sensitivity than most - if any [sensitivity] at all. It also whitens teeth that don't traditionally whiten with your normal systems - whether it be in-office of over the counter.
I've seen incredible results for people that maybe have come into the office for veneers - and that may be a different, conservative option they may not realize. They thought that they needed veneers to have a bright white smile, and all it's a matter of is doing a little whitening. Specifically with Kör, because they didn't know that Kör was out there and they've whitened with other products and their teeth haven't been touched.
Invisalign is a clear alternative to traditional metal braces, and it's for those that want to basically straighten their teeth on the sly. It's a series of clear alligners that are made specifically for them, and they basically change them out every 2 weeks, until they achieve the result of straight teeth.
We do a lot of Invisalign in our office. A lot of times when we are working up an aesthetic case, a comprehensive complex case, we have to actually put the teeth in position before we can put veneers on them, because we want a real strong foundation to build on.
Dentistry isn't one-size-fits-all. Cases vary in complexity and sometimes we have to implement more than one to achieve the best outcome.
Aesthetic dentistry makes smiles look pretty, but also so much more. It takes into consideration someone's entire bite, the form and function. We're also looking at the entire face, where the eyes sit, the nose, their lip volume. There's so much to consider in enhancing someone's smile. It's not just a matter of putting teeth in. They need to fit and function well, they need to feel natural and like the patient's own.
