As you all know, in mid September, 2013, the crew of the Campbell's Sloop, a 34' Catalina sailboat, and I embarked on a solo stand up paddle through the California Channel Island chain to raise funds and awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project and the Casa Hogar Orphanage in Ensenada, Mexico. The result was a life changing, life affirming experience that I want to share with the world!
I wanted to create a documentary film like no other had been created for the sport of stand up paddling. What you are about to witness is the story of a crew of both experienced and novice sailors coming together for an epic adventure!
...Oh yeah, and some crazy guy followed them the entire way on a stand up paddleboard to boot!
We left nothing to the imagination here. You will witness every saltwater splash, every gust through a speaker, and each peak and trough of a swell as we circumnavigate the inner California Channel Islands on our journey from Oxnard, CA to Dana Point, CA.
A trip like this had never been attempted, let alone documented as precisely as we have. Along the way we set three firsts for stand up paddling as well as reclaimed two more stand up paddle world records. To this date, no one else has solo stand up paddled a consecutive trip through these islands, paddled more miles through these islands, or SUP'd the Catalina Channel faster or more times than Will Schmidt.
We do it all for the love of the sport...to push the limit where no one has dared push before us...to raise awareness and funds for charitable causes...to keep ourselves motivated, alive, and striving for greatness...and most of all, to stay INSPIRED!
