The Frontier is a familial drama about three unlikely individuals at crossroads in their lives, who come together and help each other find their way forward. Sean, a retired literature professor and civic activist, writes a letter to his son, Tennessee, a ranch hand who hasn’t been home for years. Upon receiving this letter, Tennessee hitchhikes back home with the hope of making peace with his father, at the same that Nina, a young woman looking to find herself and her place in the world, accepts Sean’s offer to move into his guest room and help him write his memoirs. As their differences quickly rise to the forefront, the three find it difficult to live under the same roof. The reserved Tennessee, long-alienated by Sean’s philandering, is wary of Nina’s presence, and soon butts heads with his garrulous and self-centered father. Nina, seeking peace and quiet after a tumultuous breakup, is caught between the two men and must become the peacemaker if she’s to get any work done on Sean’s memoirs. As their walls come down and the healing process begins, they find that they are becoming a strange sort of family.
