This music video skit features Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone of The Lonely Island playing serious hip hop artists who are struggling to record a hook with Pirates Of The Caribbean-obsessed Michael Bolton. We shot in NYC at Buddakan and on the beach in Coney Island. We were given permission to film there on very short notice, an extremely rare occurrence, with our permit being issued the morning of the shoot as we parked our trucks. A massive Gradall hoisted our Crows Nest onto the beach and we filmed Michael in full Pirate's makeup against the Atlantic Ocean with a technocrane that we hauled 80 yards to the shoreline. The last scene we filmed was the recording studio performance, during which the New York Fire Department showed up in full force, axes in hand. Apparently water based hazers actually CAN set off certain some smoke detectors, even if they are covered up. So a word to the wise. The Firefighters burst into the room, saw The Lonely Island, and started laughing out loud. "Have a good shoot guys" was all they said before they quickly exited the premises.
