The implementation of harsh austerity measures has curtailed press freedom in Greece.
The recent, sudden closure of the public broadcaster ERT is only the last episode of a crisis that has seen journalists fired after criticizing a minister – like the popular anchor Marilina Katsimi – or brought to court – like Kostas Vaxevanis – for publishing a hidden “shame list” of Greek citizens that have undeclared accounts in Switzerland.
