The subject of the American Revolution was very distant to me. I grew up with Polish myths of historic events which were meant to create the fabric of Poland. Then, with the myth of the Communist Revolution of 1917 which was meant to show the world the way. When PBS’ “American Experience” commissioned me to this make this film, I had an attitude: aren’t all revolutions jokes? But after making PATRIOT'S DAY, I became a fan of this historic event which started when a drunk American accidentally fired a gun from a tavern window and ultimately caused the United States to exist. Otherwise we would be... Canada.
