The paddles dig deep into the river, and a moment later we are plunged over the drop into roiling white water.
Commanded thus we throw our weight and energy behind our strokes, and surge forward out of the stopper. The steep pale cliffs of Cataract Gorge rise up above us on both sides, and the sunlight is warm and glorious. But there is no relaxing yet - this section of the South Esk River is a grade 4 white water run, and we haven't even reached Duck Reach yet.
