Martin Luther reminds us in the Small Catechism that our baptism into Christ indicates that our sinful nature “should by daily contrition and repentance be drowned and die with all sins and evil desires.” We emerge each new day to live before God in His righteous-ness and purity. When we re-engage God’s law in our lives, a new pattern of behavior is formed, one that honors God and our neighbor.” The result? Life, vigor, and health for ourselves and the whole community—a blessed fellowship of believers! We obey not out of fear of divine retribution, but rather because God has promised that obedience to His ways brings a full life for us and those around us.
