"Celebrating Mr. Nak" is a one-night production to be staged March 29, 2014, celebrating the life and work of James A. Nakamoto, longtime Honolulu director and educator at McKinley High School in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Lovingly remembered as "Mr. Nak" by his students and members of the Hawaii theater community, Jim Nakamoto died in October 2013. He expressed the wish that we gather one more time and celebrate the joy of theater in a production. The show recaptures some of the highlights of the repertoire that appeared in the MHS theater, and includes original material that recreates the interaction between "Mr. Nak" and his students. Current students and faculty at McKinley, as well as alumni, are taking part. Many of his former colleagues in the theater community are coming together, including some who now live on the Mainland.
We do this as a "thank you" to someone who helped so many students and changed lives. But beyond the personal investment of time by volunteers, there are some production costs we need to raise, through Kickstarter and other means. See jim-nakamoto.com for details.
Anything left over will be left to the school to benefit the continued use of the theater for its students.
