The most efficient work is done inside the sacred walls, not outside," claimed Charles E. St. John, a prominent Unitarian minister a century ago. His sentiments were echoed decades later by a minister of this congregation, Robert Raible, who insisted the best way to change the world for the better was to change ourselves and our religious communities first — to model the world we dreamed of through our own lives. At a time when many Unitarian Universalists have rallied under the banner "congregations and beyond," we would still do well to reflect upon what's happening within our congregations and within ourselves before presuming to take it somewhere beyond.
