Boardinghouse owner Mary Surratt was one of four Southern sympathizers who was tried, convicted and hanged for conspiring to assassinate President Lincoln. Believed by many to have been innocent, she was nevertheless doomed to be the first woman executed by the federal government. Was the widow Surratt truly guilty of the crime, or just a busy mother and innkeeper in the wrong place at the wrong time?
"Filmmakers Chris and Heather King merge history and technology to stunning effect. A highly sophisticated piece of filmmaking." - Carla Meyer, Sacramento Bee
"I enjoyed all 23 minutes of this and found myself looking over at the timer every few minutes hoping there was more, not less, left to see. The climax is affecting - and disturbing. 'Mary Surrat' packed more emotion into 23 minutes than can be found in all of Robert Redford's film 'The Conspirator'." - Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle
