Here’s a fun test I did with the SLR Magic Anamorphot 1.33, SLR Magic 35mm T 1.4, and the +0.33, +1.3 achromatic diopters set. I was truly curious to see the performance of this Anamorphic lens, especially paired with my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema camera. So I conned my wife into joining in on the fun. I also couldn’t help but sneak some smoke into this test as well.
I have to say that I was very pleased with the lens’s performance and look. Having previously owned and used the Kowa Prominar Anamorphic 8-Z 43194 lens, there was an immediate night and day difference in the ease of focusing and use.
All the extreme close-ups were filmed with both diopters stacked. This allowed me to get in very close (half a meter), which is great, but focusing that close was still pretty challenging. Being so new to diopters, with more time I believe, I will definitely get the hang of it better. Overall I had a great experience using this lens.
There is some banding on certain low light shots. That is not a product of the lens.
That is the product of me not being a cinematographer :-) and having to gain certain shots.
