I am not a life-long Odyssey of the Mind die-hard. Until this past fall, all I knew was that my daughters' school had a few teams and I saw the parents who coached them trading secret handshakes and knowing looks in the halls during the weeks leading up to the competition. I could have easily stayed the course with only one more year left at JY Joyner. But see, there's this very persuasive parent, Suzy Wasik--you know the one--who said, "Oh, come on. We can do it together. It'll be fun. Only one hour a week. If you have a conflict, we won't meet that week..."
Really? Hmmm... so I signed my name on the dotted line and here we are, four months later, and far more than one hour a week's investment in. But I get it. I'm sold. It's something to experience and honestly reminds me of my start-up days in an old warehouse in the Mission District of San Francisco, problem-solving into the night, with technology instead of duct tape, but honestly, not a far leap from what these kids did.
Cheers to Coach Suzy and Team Ha-ha-ha on the Problem "Here's How We Rule." Because we did rule. love, Coach Liisa
