Viral vectors for human stem cell reprogramming
Dr. James Ellis, PhD

Dr. Ellis completed his PhD on gene targeting using retrovirus vectors with Dr. Alan Bernstein at Mt. Sinai Hospital/University of Toronto. A post-doctoral fellowship with Dr. Frank Grosveld at the National Institute for Medical Research in London, UK led to identification of locus control region elements that drive high-level expression from β-globin transgenes in mice for blood gene therapy. As a scientist at the Hospital for Sick Children, Dr. Ellis has pursued viral gene therapy of stem cells. His current research interests include the development of virus vectors to facilitate reprogramming of patient skin cells into induced pluripotent stem cells to model human disease.
