Our latest project took us to New Orleans where we worked in collaboration with the NBA to design and execute the NBA Digital Village during the 2014 Jam Session.
Work started with the scenography development in collaboration with the very talented Mateo Mounier who's previous clients include Moment Factory and the Cirque du Soleil. Our goal was to create a space where visitors are immersed in the wide spectrum of NBA's digital products, including NBA League pass, Shot Charts, NBA.com, NBA TV and many more.
Our approach focused on providing various levels of engagement with the audience while aggregating different content sources ranging from social media to live broadcasts. Part of the design challenge was to showcase the whole spectrum of digital products while maintaining a coherence in the overall experience and aesthetic.
An additional challenge was to provide a functionality that could adapt to a variety of content scenarios at the touch of a button. To achieve this, the whole environment could be controlled through a Samsung tablet and a custom built application.
From beginning to end, this process led us to go through hours of video, hundreds of stats, lines of code, sounds bites, renders and the occasional full night of sleep. This project also gave us the pleasure to collaborate with Boogie Studio, from Montreal, who’s dedicated team provided some amazing VFX and sound design.
In the end what it really came down to was taking a holistic approach and realizing that beyond each individual product, the NBA’s digital initiative had changed the game.
