ROCK YOUR BABY is a uniquely American story of how a group of individuals with raw talent and diverse backgrounds, led by the indefatigable determination and genius of one man, exported the music of Miami to the world.
Henry Stone is that man. He is the hippest ninety-one year old man in America, and still working hard to make his next hit record.
ROCK YOUR BABY explores Henry Stone’s seventy years in the music business, and documents the evolution of record distribution that was an integral foundation of his career. Along the way, Henry recorded a young Ray Charles, produced the original “Twist,” was the Godfather to the Godfather (James Brown), discovered "Sam and Dave" and brought Disco to the world.
In the 1970s, Henry became an international record mogul by launching the Disco craze with the first worldwide hit, "Rock Your Baby." Stone discovered and nurtured writers, artists and producers who became part of the multi-ethnic Miami-based TK Records. From their Hialeah studio and warehouse, TK became the biggest independent record label in the world.
Artists and writers such as KC and The Sunshine Band, Betty Wright, Clarence Reid, Bobby Caldwell, Anita Ward, George McCrae, Gwen McCrae, Timmy Thomas, Ray Munnings' The Beginning of the End, Peter Brown, Jimmy Bo Horne, Voyage, T-Connection, Latimore, Willie Clarke and Steve Alaimo - all worked together with one goal: to get Disco and the "Miami Sound" out to the world.
In 1979 the Disco era came to an abrupt end as tens of thousands of Disco records burned at Chicago's Disco Demolition Night. With the "Death of Disco", TK records went bankrupt. The TK family disbanded, but Henry Stone re-emerged as a pioneer of Miami Freestyle in the mid-80's and 90's. Like Berry Gordy in Detroit who gave us the sound of "Motown", over the course of his career, Henry gave the world the original "Miami Sound" - a fusion of Island Music, Rhythm and Blues, melodic bass lines and a groove.
The producers of ROCK YOUR BABY are in-production on the feature-length documentary that will bring this story to the world.
