Spaces of Play is a game studio based in Berlin consisting of Mattias Ljungström, Marek Plichta, Andreas Zecher and Martin Straka. They are a group of independent game designers, visual artists and musicians that came together with the goal of creating great games. Their focus is on original ideas, gameplay and polish.
Mattias Ljungström has a long background in mobile, PlayStation and PC game development. For the iPhone he has worked with Smule Inc to create graphics and visual interactions for applications such as the Ocarina, Leaf Trombone and I am T-Pain. Previously, he was an assistant professor in Game Design and Advanced Media at the University of Applied Science in Potsdam.
Marek Plichta is the co-designer and visual artist of the award-winning games Spirits and Ordnungswissenschaft. He holds a B.A. in Interface Design and taught Game Design at the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam and Interface Design at the Designschool Schwerin. Marek also organized the Global Game Jam in Berlin, loves experimental media, and likes to eat bananas on continents far away.
Andreas Zecher works as a freelance web developer and game designer in Stockholm. As Marek he studied design, but shifted gears from classical graphic design towards programming. He designed Understanding Games as well as the original version of Mr. Bounce.
Martin Straka is a studied musicologist and works as a freelance sound designer based in Karlsruhe. He composed music and sound effects for several games such as Mr. Bounce, The Black Forest, Understanding Games and Trauma, which was nominated at the Independent Games Festival for Excellence in Audio.
