A group of my and Josh Biggs' students from NAU, along with freelance journalist Shelley Smithson, having been documenting the contemporary life of Navajos in the New Lands area.
"The Padres Mesa Demonstration Ranch serves as a hands-on training and skills development facility for ranchers of the New Lands and surrounding communities. New and tried and true methods are demonstrated in order to enrich the Navajo ranchers' cattle production with the goal of giving them the tools and knowledge to be competitive in the beef industry." padresmesaranch.com/about.
Shot on the Digital Bolex D16 with Rokinon 8mm lens (thanks to Eric Tajc for the lens), along with my 25mm f/2.8 Zeiss Contax. Some of the shots got dirty due to a lot of dust, but I handheld the documentary and am convinced that this is a great camera for doing documentary work. All shots from the D16, graded in LightPost, exported ProRes 4444 to Final Cut for additional grading. Produced by Shelley Smithson.
