Eli Heller, a fourth-year Literary Journalism major at UC Irvine, came out to his hall mates as gay in freshman year. We asked Eli who he considers his team to be. We asked him to tell us about the environment in which he felt comfortable enough to come out. While he felt most comfortable sharing his sexual identity with his new friends in his freshman dorm, he feels fortunate be able to connect with his Jewish culture while not being judged for being gay. According to Eli, identifying as LGBTQA does not have to be mutually exclusive with having faith and sharing in your religious practices.
