This week, President Obama made a congratulatory phone call to Republican Scott Brown Tuesday night. Brown beat out his democratic opponent, Martha Coakley, for the Massachusetts Senate seat left vacant by Sen. Ted Kennedy, who died of brain cancer in August. The president visited the American Red Cross in Washington Monday where he thanked some of the organization’s employees for their work following the devastating earthquake in Haiti last week. An estimated 200,000 people have died as a result of the earthquake, but survivors were still being pulled from the rubble more than a week after the natural disaster hit. And the Obama family marked the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday by serving lunch to Washington’s poor at a social services organization called So Others Might Eat.
