Jawhar جوهر (Short Dance Film)

‎”جوهر” “Jawhar” is a short experimental dance film created by Stephanie Moukarzel and Anthony Nakhle. Filmed, directed and edited by Stephanie Moukarzel. Performed and choreographed by Anthony Nakhle. In collaboration with music artists Raed Yassin, Jad Atoui and Gautier Rocqancourt (Full Beige). Sound designed by Margot Kulichova.

Filmed in Lebanon’s oldest silk factory in Dammour which dates back to 1792, “Jawhar” is the physical, sensory and emotional expression of the soul. An introspection of our existence as people who come from this land. A journey into movement, light and sound.

Between the conscious, the subconscious and all the layers that unite and separate us from ourselves and the truth that roots within us.

Filming “Jawhar” was one of the most profound experiences I’ve had as a filmmaker. Anthony and I were in a dance of eternity, moving through endless dimensions of space and time to create what we both feel in the depth of our beings.
