Asian Americans United (AAU) organized its first annual Mid-Autumn Festival in Philadelphia, PA nearly 20 years ago. Now a beloved tradition, AAU's Mid-Autumn Festival draws thousands to Philadelphia's Chinatown to celebrate family, culture and community.
As a community oral historian and educator, I began documenting AAU's stories --through audiotapes, photographs, and video -- when I joined AAU's board years ago. During Scribe Video Center's ( http://scribe.org ) 14-week production workshop, I completed this short video for AAU in 2014. Most of the festival footage is from 2011 and 2013. AAU's Executive Director Ellen Somekawa narrates much of the video with additional interviews of Alice Vuong, Raksa Yin, Dun Mark. (There's a longer version of the festival, not posted here, with many more interviews as well.) Cheers and thanks to all who continue to reclaim culture and build communities!
