Simple GSHP Systems: Lower Cost, Higher Performance - Steve Kavanaugh
Wednesday March 12th 2014
Early ground source heat pumps for commercial and institutional buildings mimicked simple residential designs. This approach has been largely abandoned in preference for more complex systems. Results from a recent field study indicate simple systems outperformed complex GSHPs by a wide margin while interior component cost increases have outpaced those for ground loops by a 3 to 1 margin in a 15-year period.
This presentation discusses GSHP design simplicity and presents an update on the revision of the ASHRAE book, Ground Source Heat Pumps.
