Justification for Grooming was the second piece in the series, which concluded with an exhibition on July 29, 2007. It examined the psychology of male and female beauty rituals.
The installation was customized into Moxie Parlour, a San Francisco hair salon, and transformed the space into a temple for beauty worship. A religion was built around beauty, complete with saints, rituals, angels and a martyr. The show climaxed with a performance piece at 7:29pm where any member of the audience could take a cut of my hair.
This clip is a video component to IV : 2.5 Miles in the Shoes, a performance piece chronicling a pilgrimage to the hair salon where the artshow would take place. It was projected on loop onto a shower curtain in the shampooing section of the salon- the shampoo chairs functioning as theater seats.
