We pride ourselves on not only having a wide array of historical periods on show at the Festival, but also drawing upon the very best re-enactors and historical interpreters in the country who all believe passionately in educating and bringing history and the past to life.

Each group will have their own encampment, and any one of their number will be happy to share their experience and knowledge, showing how the people of that age lived, ate, and fought, and what clothes they wore and the tools and traditions that were the bedrock of their day-to-day existence. Each year we will give one period particular prominence and this June it will be the Second World War, acknowledging the 70th Anniversary of D-Day and the Normandy campaign. We are also delighted that there will be a WWII encampment throughout the entire Festival rather than at just the weekend, and will include not only an Allied Field Hospital but also the superb Red Ball Express – get ready for a mass of tents, vehicles and ammunition dumps!

Back by popular demand will be Sword School and Have-a-Go-Archery, as well as the immersive First World War Trench experience as well as the best jousting group in the country. There will be firing demonstrations, drills and skirmishes, as well as a full programme of children’s activities and a stunning Normandy battle re-enactment, with tanks, fighter aircraft and plenty of explosions! It will be an incredible spectacle…
