I have been a massive TISM fan since I picked up my sealed 7 inch single of 'Defecate On My Face' and then took it home I stood there perplexed and bewildered for an hour because when I said it was "SEALED", the vinyl record inside was actually encased in it's cardboard sleeve on all sides. I thought to myself....."WELL PLAYED" and I kept on saying that, as I saw them perform the most interesting and enthralling set of gigs over the years. I never knew what to expect, when I rocked up at a TISM gig.
I attended almost every Melbourne concert by the band, raved about them to all of my friends and grabbed every recording, VHS tape or DVD and witty TISM T-Shirts that my dirty little mitts could grab. The band broke up and good times were had.
When Melbourne Free University announced that Damian Cowell, the masked artist formerly known as Humphrey B. Flaubert of the THIS IS SERIOUS MUM was doing a talk about the history of TISM, I just had to be there, with a some other members of other VICTIMS OF TISM SUPPORT GROUP.
Here is Damian's talk including the Q&A afterwards. So sit right down and whittle away your furniture as Damian tells us how TISM gatecrashed the Melbourne Music Scene. As Damian says TISM "were an insignificant footnote in an ill fitting shoe and I am more interested to talk about the ill fitting shoe".
A BIG thank you for Damian Cowell and Ben Sievewright for allowing me to capture this video.
Since TISM broke up, Damian has formed ROOT! which morphed into The DC3. He is currently working on his next solo project.
