An EMD GP-15 makes its usual weekday run south toward Troy Grove, Illinois.
After catching the seven coal trains of the morning, I had hopes that a break in the action would give me time for lunch. But as I crossed the Union Pacific tracks in Earlville, I looked north and saw the distant headlight of a train. The "Troy Grove Job" was about to delay my lunch. So I drove south to a pre-scouted spot and set up.
For a while I had wanted to shoot to get a "going away" clip of this train. But the sun is just about directly in line with the tracks at its usual mid day passage. So the shot would be into the sun. So I used the the tree to provide a bit of framing and I was able to use it to shield the sun and get a high contrast, almost silhouette shot.
I realized that I misspelled "Earlville" in the title. Nuts.
