Glenn Wahl, member of the Cattaraugus-Chautauqua Citizens for Clean Water, speaks about high volume horizontal fracking (HVHF) and its impact on the environment. The 37-minute documentary 'The Ethics of Fracking' by Pennsylvania filmmaker Scott Cannon, was shown and discussed. Wahl, a geology instructor at JCC, is a retired high school science teacher. The event, held at Jamestown Community College North, in Dunkirk NY, was sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Chautauqua County and hosted by Minda Rae Amiran.
Concerned about the possible lifting of the NY State moratorium on HVHF, villages and townships have considered what options they have to regulate the highly intrusive environmentally destructive new industry. Workers in the gas industry, as well as a few small owners, argue that fracking is safe and clean, and anyway, it means jobs. The meeting was held February 25, 2014.
