The scene is an ordinary village market, where a magician is performing and displaying a tiger and a snake. For reasons known only to himself, he chooses a maiden from the crowd, then induces the crowd to sacrifice her. When this rite is completed, they return to the normal activities of the market.
Dance as an art may not be a powerful presence with generous support in our country, but small independent contemporary dance groups are blooming which offer us admirable examples of their work. Over the last three years, Christina Beskou’s Seresta group of talented choreographers and dancers has managed to provide innovative work of high quality.
In a few days we will have the pleasure of seeing their new creation in the Knossos theatre.
The work entitled Ritual, choreographed by Christina Beskou reveals flashes of human temperament and behavior inspired by the music of Zakir Hussein, Piazzola, Shankar, Nino Rota, Howard Levy and others.
Seresta will present the joy, cheerfulness, arrogance, loneliness and passion that characterise human relations by opening this year's summer season, though indoors. This summer promises to be hot for Seresta, and for those who remember last year’s success at the Wiltz Festival in Luxemburg, this year’s more intense productions should offer some very interesting new dance statements.

Ritual is the title of this year's production of the Seresta dance group, to be presented tomorrow at the Theatre Knossos. Seresta’s latest work offers the viewer moments of joy and mirth, moments of feminine coquetry and male arrogance, greed and prudishness, moments of greed, of human warmth moments, hard icy moments hidden behind the beautiful faces, moments of loneliness and despair, moments of passion and love, moments of sadness, horror and madness, moments of myth, fantasy and dream ...
