In Matthew 11:25-30, Jesus extends to us a Great Invitation. What is perhaps most shocking about this invitation is to whom it is extended: not the brightest and best, not the ones to have the most to offer in terms of power or prestige or resources. Rather, Jesus invites those who are weary and burdened, those who have tried to make it through life on their own and have consistently come up short. It is to these weary and burdened souls that Jesus offers to give rest: not just a break from physical activity, but the kind of rest alluded to in Genesis 1, the rest that comes when we live in God's original creation design.
