Love-ism is a long term study inspired by the book “The Art of Loving” by Erich Fromm. He takes a closer look at the human experience of intimacy, challenging the perception and liquidity of the agreed upon, the sublime and the condemned. For Love-ism Shani collaborates closely with video-artist Paul Sixta. They seek for that particular moment when supreme ideas about love like care, mutuality and dependency stop being sacred and become sinful, and they wonder what it is that distinguishes one kind of love from another.
Shani works with professionals on a series of duets in various constellations. Parallel to this process he organises open workshops to be able to dialogue and interact with a community of non-professionals (kids and adults) and feed the creative process. The material, encounters and interviews resulting from the workshops find a way into the eventual artwork. Paul Sixta captures the several steps of the whole process in film.
