Green Columbus asked us to come up with a fun, quirky way to showcase the history of Earth Day in Columbus and encourage volunteers for this year's event.
To achieve their goals we created Hungover History (a spoof on the show Drunk History). The 4-minute short covers the founding of Earth Day in Columbus, growth of the event, and ends with a call for people to show their Gratitude by signing up for the 2014 Earth Day in Columbus events.
Hungover History played in Columbus, OH at Studio 35 (pre-show) and at The Gateway Film Center (before the film The Carbon Rush) in the weeks leading up to Eath Day 2014.
The video helped motivate a record-breaking number of volunteers, over 4,000, to donate their time at 181 service sites across the region from April 19-26.
In total, the volunteers devoted more than 12,500 hours to Earth Day service, making Central Ohio’s Earth Day, once again, the largest Earth Day volunteer service project in the nation, as verified by the Earth Day Network. Additionally, more than 4,500 trees were planted.
