Indigenous people's of Australia live with profound disadvantage with a 17 year difference in overall life expectancy. Aboriginal women deliver their infants at double the rates of preterm births compared with non-Aboriginal women. The Gomeroi Gaayngal Program was initiated in 2008 as an arts health program for Aboriginal women in their pregnancy and postnatal periods. The Gomeroi Gaayngal Program now works in a number of communities across NSW, Australia covering an area larger than the United Kingdom. Internationally, this science study has become the largest study with Indigenous women in pregnancy of any kind.
