Over half a million sandhill cranes pause on the Platte River in Nebraska during March, on their migration from Texas and New Mexico to the arctic. This video was filmed on March 21-22, 2014. Every evening the crane return to sand bars in the Platter River, where they can sleep protected from predators. The next morning they return to the fields, where they eat heartily with the goal of gaining as much as 10% of their body weight.
