On 7 April 2014 the international community will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide. Over the course of a 100 day period in 1994 at least 1.000,000 Rwandans were murdered in the fastest genocide of the 20th Century. To honor this tragedy I would like to share with UU communities around the world a very rich experience of love and forgiveness between Genocide survivors and perpetrators of genocide in RWANDA. As a new generation emerges we will ensure the lives of those lost are remembered through our actions today. CUUR calls on the global UU community to stand together against genocide.
As a young community of UU in Rwanda, recently recognized by our government, we have an obligation of changing lives which is not simple; a really hard work. So, we need you to stand together and work together.
We would like to request one minute of silence on 7 April 2014, at 12 O'clock; It is an important occasion to remember the lives that were lost, to show solidarity with survivors and unite to ensure that genocide never happens again – in Rwanda or elsewhere!
Clement Uwayisaba, Leader of the ICUU Emerging Group of Unitarian Universalists in Rwanda
