Theatre Westminster’s next big production, “Snakes, Butterbeans, and the Discovery of Electricity,” is due to hit the Beeghly Theatre stage April 3-5 at 7 p.m. and April 6 at 2:30 p.m. Before the curtain can go up on this particular production, however, the script needs to be finished.
For the past several weeks, Associate Professor and Communication Studies, Theatre and Art Department Chair Dr. Scott Mackenzie, along with a handful of Westminster students, has been hard at work adapting Professor Emeritus Dr. James Perkins’ 2003 short story collection, “Snakes Butterbeans, and the Discovery of Electricity” into a stage production. Semi-autobiographical in nature, the collection follows Four-eyes, a young boy growing up in 1940s Kentucky.
WCN 24/7's Laura Seiple sat down with the pair to discuss the collection and the process behind its adaptation.
